The Big Reveal

Although I entitled my last article “Let’s start at the very beginning”, as I have just sold my very successful networking business in Mauritius, I feel that now is actually another beginning, as I embark on a brand-new adventure.
Wherever life leads me, I can be sure that through practicing good networking I will find people who will lead me to, and through, my next chapter.

If I could share one piece of advice with you, it would be that whether you feel you are good at engaging with people or not; whether you think you need other people or feel totally self-sufficient, reach out to others to build a support system around you. We can all benefit from having many networks, covering various aspects of our lives…. A social network, a business network, a school network, a parent network and so on…. In fact, a friend of mine even has a network of friends none of whom are great cooks. They share easy recipes and help to encourage one another through their common need to put good home-cooked meals in front of their families.

You probably have a few networks already, without even thinking about it! Facebook and whatsapp groups you belong to. They all have a name, title or a topic which unite those members.

Good networking starts with a DECISION. You decide to actively engage with a group.

  • Give some thought to a challenge you have currently.
  • What kind of people would be best placed to help you through it?
  • Where could you find these types of people?
  • What groups could you join to help you through your challenge?
  • Now, decide to invest some time with those groups, getting to know the people, understanding their challenges, offering advice and support to them.

Giving to your network is key to ensuring that your network works for you.

During the course of our lives, we are faced with many challenges. Investing time in a strong network of individuals with a common interest, will have you perfectly poised to rise to and overcome life’s challenges. By the same token, your challenges will have you set to assist others when they need your strength and guidance.
Constantly nurture your relationships across multiple networks.

Everyone who crosses your path does so for a reason. Be open to meeting, sharing, helping, and guiding those you encounter. Step out of your comfort zone, engage with someone in a new circle, and then enjoy the big reveal, as the benefit you have brought to them or them to you, becomes evident!
